Sosua Travel and Flight InformationThe closest airport is the Gregorio Luperon International Airport of Puerto Plata (POP), which is 10 minutes from Sosua. The International Airport of the Americas is a 4 hour drive away, so if you can do it you are better off flying into Puerto Plata. If you do fly into Santo Domingo, then Caribe Tours offers bus service to Sosua. Once there you can take a minibus or a taxi to your resort or hotel. These minibuses travel all day between Sosua and Puerto Plata, Playa Dorada, or Cabarete.

Getting Around

Sosua is easy to get around on foot when you are staying in either El Batey or Charamicos. It is a safe place and well lit and there are people around all day and night. If you wish to move about farther and faster, then you can rent a motorcycle and there are minibuses and taxis if you want to make your way to Puerto Plata, Playa Dorada, or Cabarete.

Dominican Republic Airports and Flights

The Dominican Republic has 10 international airports, with flights to destinations such as the Caribbean, North America, and other parts of the world. The country’s biggest airport is situated in the city of Santo Domingo, the nation’s capital. Yet the towns of Santiago, Puerto Plata and Punta Cana also feature some very well constructed airports offering many facilities, while maintaining international security standards. Smaller airports can be found in the rest of the country. Their main purpose is to facilitate access to the different tourist regions.

The country’s biggest airports are the following:

Las Américas International Airport
Located a few minutes from Santo Domingo, it’s the country’s most important airport, with more than 12 airlines serving around 2.8 million passengers a year. Daily flights are operated to the USA and Puerto Rico, as well certain Caribbean destinations. Planes also fly directly to some major European cities three to five times a week. Airport facilities include a post office, a bank with 24-hour exchange facilities, duty-free shops, ATMs, internet centers, firs-aid, and various restaurants and bars. Santiago International Airport
One of the country’s main airports, this is the place to land for anyone going to the towns of Santiago, La Vega, Jarabacoa, and Constanza. Daily flights from and to the US can be found. This airport also offers facilities such as duty-free shops, ATM machines, restaurants and bars.

Gregorio Luperón Puerto Plata International Airport
Serves tourists going to places such as Puerto Plata, Cofresí, Playa Dorada, Sosúa, Cabarete, and Río San Juan. Facilities include duty-free shopping, banks, ATMs, restaurants and bars, gift shops, and a tourist help desk.

Punta Cana International Airport
It’s the airport with the most connections in all the Caribbean. Airport facilities include many shops and stores, snack bars, restaurants and bar, duty-free shopping and ATMs.

The Southern part of the country also features two additional international airports:

La Isabela International Airport
A lso located in Santo Domingo, while much smaller than Las Americas. This airport mainly features flights to Haiti, Puerto Rico and other Caribbean destinations, as well as domestic commuter flights. Facilities include restaurants and ATMs.

Maria Montez International Airport
Situated in Baharona. It’s the best choice for people going to Baharona and Pedernales.

People traveling to the east coast can consider the following airports to land in:

La Romana International Airport
Close to cities such as la Romana, Bayahibe, Higuey, and San Pedro de Macorís.

In the northeast region, the following airports can be found:

Samana International Airport
The best choice for anyone heading to Playa Grande, Nagua, or San Francisco de Macoris.

El Portillo Landing Field
The easiest choice for the areas of Las Terrenas, Portillo, and the northern Samaná beach areas.

Arroyo Barril International Airport
This airport is close to Samaná City, Sánchez, and Las Galeras.

A new international airport is now being built in the northern town of Dajabon. The town already features a small airport which only operates a few domestic flights, but soon will boast the 11th international airport or the country.
